Welcome to ECIS 2017
On behalf of the European Colloid and Interface Society (ECIS), it is a great pleasure to invite you to attend their annual conference that will be held from 3rd to 8th September 2017 in Madrid. The annual ECIS Conference is a major event for the colloid science community and this is the 31st Conference of a series of successful meetings, whose primary goal is to bring together all major disciplines of colloids and interfaces, enabling participants to exchange knowledge, communicate each other the results of their recent research, and to network with colleagues for new collaborations.
The conference will take place in the Ciudad Universitaria campus of the Complutense University (UCM), which is close to the center of Madrid. UCM is a highly competitive university in which more than 86,000 students are currently registered. Among their alumni includes many famous historians, philosophers, poets, Prime Ministers, and two winners of the Nobel Prize in Medicine (Ramon y Cajal in 1906, and Severo Ochoa in1959).
The ECIS 2017 will cover fundamental and applied advances in the fields of interfaces, dispersed systems, wetting, complex fluids, micro-and nano-engineered materials, upconversion nanoparticles, ion specific effects, self-assembly of surfactants, polymers and proteins, and advances in theory and instrumentation. Moreover a special session will be dedicated to Colloidal Science in Latin America.
Plenary lectures will be given by the laureates of the Overbeek 2017 and Solvay 2017 Prizes. Furthermore, the ECIS seeks to encourage the participation of young researchers and PhD students with three awards dedicated to them: For the fourth time, the best oral presentation given by a young scientist will be awarded by the Enzo Ferroni Prize, the best three oral presentations will be awarded with Langmuir Prizes, and the five best posters presented will be awarded with Elsevier Prizes.
Elsevier gives the opportunity to publish the articles from the conference in a special issue of Colloids and Surfaces A: Physicochemical and Engineering Aspects after the usual refereeing procedure. We are also happy to announce a pre-conference ECIS Training Course “Design of Colloidal Materials for Biomedical Applications” to be held the 1st and 2nd of September 2017.
The local organization team is actively at work to create a lively event that will offer an unforgettable experience for all ECIS 2017 participants.
We look forward to seeing you at the 31st ECIS conference in Madrid.
